lima lima lima

i'm in lima!

26 hot, sticky bus hours later, i've arrived and showered. i even ran into a friend from cusco to go shopping with.

things are good, very excited to be back at sea level, back in the hot weather, and in a safe hostel with a great location. i'm even spending $9 a night... SPLURGE.

love you all, talk in person soon!

leaving, on a motorcycle-taxi-bus-jetplane

hello!

apologies for the lack of communication. i´ve been in the town of puno, resting up, taking nauseating medication, and making forays into the town whenever possible. puno has been celebrating candlemas, which involves an entire week of parades, marching bands, dancing, and festivities. the pictures are AMAZING. we also had a chance to explore lake titicaca, the highest altitude navigable lake in the world.

now it´s time to say goodbye and head back stateside. it´s important to get some grammy and mom rest time and heal before the next adventure. and it´s definitely time to embark on a new project from a new apartment. stability please?!?!

so i´m headed out on a motorcycle-taxi to see what buses i can catch, and if all goes as planned i will be picked up in the laguardia airport on valentines day.

thank you everyone for your support and love! it was a short trip, but i learned and saw so so so much that it was entirely worth it. the lesson of the day? DON´T EAT STREET FOOD. EVER.

the good news, the bad news

The good news:

we have seen AMAZING incan ruins, scattered throughout a country that might be the most beautiful place i have ever been. the mountains are huge, green or black, and sometimes capped with glaciers. manue, tom, and i escaped our tour group at every turn to climb as high as possible in the ruins. the pictures are unbelievable.

The bad news:

i must have eaten something contaminated... like XXX contaminated, nuclear waste, should have had on a fallout suit contaminated, because i have somehow contracted:
1. the parasite Entamoeba histolytica
2. ecoli
3. salmonella

i am in a clinic. it's more comfortable than hospitals in the US, but HOLY MOLY WHAT THE HELL?!?

so i feel horrible and really just want to come home. we'll see how everything pans out, i'm in here until at least tomorrow morning. and the travel insurance is refusing to cover the bill.

FML.
